As I detail in a new report, parents across New York City and state exercise school choice a surprising amount.

Asian students are the most likely to attend traditional public schools in the city, but other ethnic groups send significant numbers of students to the city’s many charter, private and religious schools.

Of the city’s 766,000 black and Hispanic schoolchildren, 21% are found in charter, private and religious schools, most of which are known for their orderliness, values, and high achievement.
