Still, there is the possibility of common ground between defenders of the status quo and those who want greater representation of black and brown students at the city’s most competitive schools.

Why not build new schools, or add seats to existing schools, with an eye to integration?

Queens, with the most overcrowded schools in the city, will need an additional 6,685 new high schools seats in the next five years, according to the School Construction Authority.

This is where we should start.
