New York’s Attorney General Letitia James has launched a new hotline for reporting coronavirus-related hate crimes and bias incidents.
James says the new hotline was created in response to an increase in harassment and assaults on Asian Americans as a result of the pandemic.
She says they’ve also seen a rise in xenophobic rhetoric through the use of terms such as the “Chinese virus,” which creates a stigma around Asian communities.
President Trump has continued to use this term despite the World Health Organization’s warning to avoid profiling a particular group or geographical location.
The number to call if you may have experienced a biased-based incident is 1-800-771-7755 or email email@example.com.
