A North Carolina man is facing possible jail time over a threatening Twitter post about lynching a Muslim candidate for Virginia’s state Senate.

Rashid posted a screenshot of the anonymous tweet to his own Twitter account, writing, “Hey @twitter this white supremacist @DaDUTCHMAN5 is threatening me with lynching b/c I am a Muslim.

(@QasimRashid) July 2, 2019Rashid said that he believes death threats are not free speech and should be prosecuted as incitement to violence.

HuffPost reached out to Twitter for comment on this case and for clarification about its policies around threatening language.

A spokesman told HuffPost that the company doesn’t comment on individual accounts “for privacy and security reasons.”Important conversations are happening now.
