Mainland Chinese stocks declined on the day.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index dropped 1.24%, as of its final hour of trading, with shares of life insurer AIA down 3.1%.
Overall, the MSCI Asia ex-Japan index declined 0.93%.
On the economic data front, retail sales in Japan dropped 12.3% year-on-year in May, according to the country’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
