Following rallying by music advocates, city music offices say they’re on track to begin rolling out venue relief by the new year.

Venue grants pending, Austin’s Nov. 19 reentry into Stage 4 COVID-19 risk ushered a wave of show cancellations.

The venue implemented “anti-scalping measures” like in-person-only ticket pickup for the instant sellout, priced at $1,000 per table of four.

The Austin Music Hall of Fame member became a fixture at the Skylark Lounge beginning in 2013, alongside decades of residencies around town.

Jonathan “Chaka” Mahone, half of local hip-hop duo Riders Against the Storm, was unanimously voted Austin Music Commission chair on Monday.
