And I just started to feel more and more like I wasn’t comfortable writing an Asian American character.

It’s not my background, and I probably couldn’t write it as well as an Asian American author could.

But I have to tell you, I am not very comfortable, entirely comfortable, with writing an Asian American character anymore.

In her obituary, her family wrote that they would remember the way Gail challenged their minds and help them grow as humans.
