As for leadership, I would rather accept a poor white, Latino or African-American kid who did not have the resources to take an SAT or ACT preparation course (a rite of passage for white middle class teenagers), who may have a few points lower on the SAT score, who worked four hours a day bagging in a supermarket to help support the family, who crammed his/her homework into a busy schedule of taking care of siblings, over a pampered upper middle class kid who had life handed to him/her on a platter.
As for gumption and leadership qualities, I would bet on the poor kid.
